To be accepted into the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, you must be at least 17 years old; be a citizen of the U.S. (either by birth or by naturalization); and pass a Personal Security Investigation. Use of the online Enrollment Application form is strongly encouraged.

The Auxiliary exists to support all USCG missions on the water or in the air, except for roles that require "direct" law enforcement or military engagement. As of 2018, there were approximately 24,000 members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The overall authority for Coast Guard Auxiliary administration is vested by law (Title 14 U.S.C. 821) in the Commandant under the direction of the Secretary of Homeland Security.

• A commissioned, warrant, or petty officer of the Coast Guard or Coast Guard Reserve, any Coast Guard civilian employee or any Auxiliarist designated as an AUXOP (AX or AX2), specifically appointed by the Director, may proctor and process the exams, including on-line exams.

• The Coast Guard is committed to supporting the Coast Guard Auxiliary by providing training materials, courses, and tools to impart the skills and knowledge needed to achieve mission excellence.

A Flotilla Vice Commander (FVC) has the primary responsibility for administration and coordination of the flotilla staff and is essentially the Chief of Staff for the flotilla.

The Auxiliary is an organization of uniformed volunteers. Membership is open to any citizen of the U.S. and its territories and possessions who is seventeen years of age or older (no mandatory maximum age) and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association, Inc. (CGAuxA, Inc.).

A Flotilla is the basic organizational unit of the Auxiliary and is comprised of at least 15 qualified members who carry out Auxiliary program activities. Every Auxiliarist is a member of a Flotilla.

The Coast Guard Authorization Act of 1996 allows the Auxiliary to assist the Coast Guard in performance of any Coast Guard function, duty, role, mission or operation authorized by law and authorized by the Commandant.

• Available to members are presentations, videos, instructional guides, DVDs, and online classrooms that cover the skills, interests, and qualifications that our members desire or need to have. Member Training includes all training provided in and by the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary for Auxiliary members.

• Member Training for All Auxiliarists in All Disciplines Member Training includes all training provided in and by the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary for Auxiliary members. It spans the following directorates: Response, Prevention, Vessel Examination, Public Education, RBS Outreach, Public Affairs, and Training.

• Examples of these exercises would be bicep curls, tricep extensions, leg curls, leg extensions, shoulder press, lateral raises, etc. When it comes to training and focusing on either Core or Auxiliary lifts, your primary focus to start should be to focus most of your routine on core lifts.
